Novak Djokovic vs Alexei Popyrin
Novak Djokovic will play against Alexei Popyrin in the 1st round in Tokyo at Japan Open. The game is on Tuesday, 1 October and will not start before 3:00 UK and here we got Best tennis prediction for the first game of Nole since the injury.
Novak Djokovic world number 1 will play his first tournament since the US Open. In the Grand Slam in the USA Djokovic beat Roberto Carballes Baena in the 1st round 3:0 and then in the 2nd again won 3:0 against Juan Ignacio Londero. In the 3rd the Serbian made another 3 sets win against Denis Kudla but in the round of 16, he was eliminated from Stan Wawrinka after the Swiss lead with 2:0 sets and in the 3rd set Novak retired due to injury in his left shoulder. Before the US Open Nole played on hard only in Cincinnati where he lost in the semifinal from Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Overall Novak Djokovic has a great season so far after winning two Grand Slams – in the Australian Open he beat in the final Rafael Nadal 3:0 sets and in Wimbledon, he made an epic clash against Roger Federer and won the title after 13-12 in the 5th set. In the French, Open Novak lost in the semifinal from Dominic Thiem in 5 sets.
Alexei Popyrin world number 90 make it to the 3rd round in the US Open after beat in the 1st Federico Delbonis and in the 2nd Mikhail Kukushkin in 4 sets. In the third round, he faced Matteo Berrettini and the Italian won in 4 sets. After the Grand Slam The Australian who is only 20 years old fly to China and played 2 qualification round in Chengdu to make it to the 1st round but there he lost from Fernando Verdasco. In Tokyo, he beat in his 1st qualification match Yosuke Watanuki and then James Duckworth to make it to the 1st round.
These will be the first-ever match between Djokovic and Popyrin. Novak doesn’t play an official game since the beginning of September but I don’t think this will be an issue against Alexei who is far away from the class of the Serbian and I expect an easy and fast win for Nole in 2 sets.
Best tennis prediction: Djokovic 2:0
